Changing out carbon is one of those tasks that always seems to get neglected over time. By creating a cartridge-style insert for the carbon postfilter and the new easy-to-operate Anchor Lock lids for the carbon reactor, we tried to make this process as effortless as possible.
For v2.1, we also changed the postfilter lid to include a full showerhead like the main reactor, and redesigned the flow path through the media plates; this provides better contact time with the media, improving filtration performance.
The upgrade is very straightforward to install. Simply remove the lid and hardware from your carbon chamber, screw the 4 screws up through the threaded flange, place the new lid and carbon insert into the postfilter, and tighten the wingnuts.
Operations are covered on pages 7 and 8 of the Mutiny v2.1 manual HERE
Complete upgrade kit for Mutiny v2 to v2.1. Includes a new carbon cartridge-style insert, a new Anchor Lock lid, and all fittings and hardware shown. Carbon sold separately.
Differences between Bituminous vs. Lignite-activated carbon
There are two popular activated carbons used in the aquatics industry: Bituminous and lignite-activated carbon. We sell and recommend bituminous activated carbon for the Mutiny Ozone Reactors. We prefer Bituminous carbon because of its larger surface area, pore volume for absorption, and lower ash content, which we believe helps increase particulate and ozone removal.
